How do you perform Side Crunches?

Side Crunches are a great exercise to target your oblique muscles and strengthen your core.

  • Lie down on your side, for example on your right side.
  • Extend your right arm on the ground for stability.
  • Place your left hand behind your head.
  • Bend your legs slightly for extra balance, if needed.
  • Engage your abdominal muscles.
  • Lift your upper body sideways, bringing your left elbow toward your left hip.
  • Keep your lower body still and focus on contracting your oblique muscles.
  • Lower yourself slowly and repeat.
  • Exhale as you lift up.
  • Inhale as you return to the starting position.

Common faults

  • Pulling on your neck. This must be avoided at all costs!
  • Using your legs to create momentum.
  • Moving or breathing without control.
