Healthy nutrition
A healthy diet is the basis for a healthy and energetic lifestyle. You usually want to lose body fat quickly, but the most important thing is to keep it that way, without the well-known yo-yo effect. Healthy eating habits have many benefits, including (but not limited to):
- Your general health will improve and you will be able to keep it for a longer period of time.
- You will perform better with physical exertion in general.
- Your brain will also be able to think better and faster.
- The aging process is significantly slowed down.
The guidelines for a healthy diet are simple. At Functional Home Training we follow the Zone® Diet guidelines of Dr. Barry Sears.
Every meal or snack should be balanced and always consist of:
30% of protein
- Proteins are the fuel for our body and should above all be lean and varied.
- These can be found in legumes, meat products, poultry, eggs, fish, dairy products and nuts.
40% of carbohydrates
- The main function of carbohydrates is to provide our body with energy.
- Carbohydrates are mainly obtained from sugars and starch.
- You can find them, for example, in bread, potatoes, whole grain products, brown rice, fruits, vegetables, etc.
- Carbohydrates should be predominantly of a low glycemic nature. The glycemic index indicates how quickly a particular food raises sugar levels.
30% of fats
- Fats should be predominantly unsaturated in nature.
- As a rough guideline, it can be stated that saturated fats are solidified (solid) at room temperature and are mainly of animal origin.
- Vegetable fats are usually unsaturated and are liquid at room temperature. A big exception are palm oil and coconut oil, which contain a high percentage of saturated fatty acids.
What can you eat?
Eat lean meats and leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruits, little starch and no sugar. Eat enough to build up your workouts, but not too much to support body fat.
What should you avoid?
Avoid foods that have a TV commercial such as food in cans, jars, sauce bags, ready-made menus, soft drinks, but also white bread, white rice, white pasta and potatoes.
In our course on the Zone® Diet, we explain step by step how you can prepare a healthy meal yourself. We take into account your body fat percentage and your activity level. If you find it all a bit too complicated, you can simply choose from our healthy recipes.
We know from experience that getting a slimmer body and especially keeping it that way is a long-term task. You have to work on it every day without it becoming a battle of attrition. We also know that you should not only pay attention to your diet (which is the basis) but that you should also exercise. And that is precisely the reason why we combine both at Functional Home Training. You can easily achieve and maintain a slimmer body by eating healthy and exercising. One cannot go without the other.
