How do you perform a Push Press?

  • Stand up straight with your feet shoulder width apart.
  • Hold a weight in each hand and raise it to shoulder height.
  • Your elbows are pointed forward.
  • Slightly bend your knees by bringing them forward.
  • Keep your back nice and vertical.
  • Straighten your knees very quickly and tighten your buttocks and abs.
  • Push the weights up until your arms are fully extended overhead.
  • Keep your elbows close to your ears throughout the exercise.
  • Your body stays upright.
  • Slowly lower the weights back to shoulder height.

Common faults

  • Your elbows are not pointing forward.
  • Overstretching your back. Keep your body vertical.
  • Bend your knees too low.
  • Bring hips back as for a squat position.
